Stellantis and TotalEnergies welcome Mercedes-Benz as a new partner of Automotive Cells Company (ACC)

• Mercedes-Benz becomes an equal shareholder of ACC along with Stellantis and TotalEnergies, each with 1/3 equity stake
• Mercedes-Benz to provide technology and production know-how to Automotive Cells Company (ACC).
• The partners will accelerate ACC’s development with an objective of at least 120 GWh of cell capacity by 2030

Paris, 24 September 2021 – Stellantis, TotalEnergies and Mercedes-Benz have entered into agreements to welcome Mercedes-Benz as a new partner of Automotive Cells Company (ACC). Following its entry, the partners commit to increase ACC’s industrial capacity to at least 120 GWh by 2030. The transaction is subject to agreement on definitive documentation and customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.

ACC results from the initiative taken in 2020 by Stellantis and TotalEnergies and supported by the French, German and European authorities, to create a European battery champion for electric vehicles. The entry of Mercedes-Benz in ACC is a clear demonstration of the industrial progress and of the merits of the project, which it will strengthen.

ACC’s objective is to develop and produce battery cells and modules for electric vehicles with a focus on safety, performance and competitiveness, while ensuring the highest level of quality and the lowest carbon footprint. The updated ACC capacity plan will mobilize an investment of more than seven billion euros, which will be supported by subsidies and financed by equity and debt. The creation of this European battery champion will support Europe to address the challenges of the energy transition in mobility, ensure its security of supply of a key component for the electric car industry.

 

ACC will be supported by a winning trio of partners that combine:

  • A deep technological expertise in battery development with Saft, an affiliate of TotalEnergies, which has more than 100 years of experience in the field of long-life batteries and battery systems.
  • A leading global mobility player with Stellantis that has a clear mission to provide cutting-edge technology to ensure freedom of movement for all through distinctive, appealing, affordable and sustainable mobility solutions.
  • The research and development expertise of Mercedes-Benz, along with its support to the expansion of ACC’s production facilities based on the brand’s benchmark quality standards.

Tomorrow drives Mercedes-Benz: focus op duurzame bedrijfsstrategie gaat veel verder dan alleen producten

Op de derde jaarlijkse ESG-conferentie (Environmental, Social & Governance) laat Mercedes-Benz zien dat het ambitieuze en meetbare doelen wil bereiken. Op weg naar een groene toekomst – en met een duidelijke focus op de gehele waardeketen – verankert de onderneming duurzaamheid in zijn dagelijkse bedrijfsvoering. Een belangrijk aspect is de wereldwijde uitbreiding van het elektrische portfolio, met als doel een xEV-aandeel van 50 procent in nieuw verkochte personenwagens in de tweede helft van het decennium. De ambitie is om in 2039 de eigen fabrieken op 100 procent hernieuwbare energie te laten draaien. Door een strategische focus te combineren met tactische flexibiliteit blijft de onderneming ecologisch en economisch op koers liggen naar een duurzame toekomst. Ook relevante initiatieven met betrekking tot sociale en bestuurlijke aspecten in de onderneming dragen bij aan een holistische duurzaamheidsaanpak. Dit omvat verschillende maatregelen waarmee Mercedes-Benz bijdraagt aan een ‘Just Transition’, bijvoorbeeld met de duurzame personeelsstrategie en initiatieven die de mensenrechten in de onderneming en in de waardeketen versterken. Door op bestuursniveau een management- en coördinatiefunctie voor duurzaamheid op te zetten, versterkte Mercedes-Benz zijn governance in 2023 om het duurzaamheidsmanagement van de groep in de toekomst nog systematischer en consistenter te kunnen controleren.

VISION EQXX demonstreert opnieuw baanbrekende efficiëntie: energieverbruik van 7,4 kWh/100 km1 tijdens elektrische rit van Riyadh naar Dubai

De technologiedrager VISION EQXX heeft met zijn derde langeafstandsrit van meer dan 1.000 km aangetoond dat zelfs de Arabische woestijn geen obstakel vormt voor energie-efficiëntie. Op een uitdagende route door drukke steden en de open woestijn behaalde het baanbrekende elektrische testvoertuig een energieverbruik van 7,4 kWh/100 km1. Dit komt overeen met circa 0,9 l/100 km voor een benzineauto. Bij buitentemperaturen tot 34 °C (93 °F) versloeg de VISION EQXX zijn eigen record aanzienlijk.

Nieuwe combinatie van performance en efficiëntie: de Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+

Met de nieuwe Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ als Limousine en Estate (energieverbruik gewogen, gecombineerd: 26,7-24,1 kWh/100 km plus 1,1-0,8 l/100 km, brandstofverbruik bij ontladen accu 9,5-8,6 l/100 km), CO₂-emissie gecombineerd, gewogen: 24-19 g/km, CO2-klasse gewogen, gecombineerd: B, CO2-klasse bij ontladen accu: G) presenteert het performance- en sportwagenmerk uit Affalterbach nog twee plug-in hybrids. Ze combineren een uitstekende performance en rijdynamiek met een grote elektrische actieradius.

Volledige levenscyclusanalyse: 360°-milieucheck voor de nieuwe E-Klasse nu beschikbaar

Mercedes-Benz publiceert al sinds 2005 milieu-informatie over zijn producten. De zogeheten “360°-milieucheck” is gebaseerd op een uitgebreide levenscyclusanalyse van het betreffende voertuig en wordt geverifieerd door onafhankelijke instanties. Bij de meest recente rapportage ligt de focus op de milieu-impact van de nieuwe E-Klasse, specifiek de E 300 e (WLTP: energieverbruik gecombineerd: 20,7-18,4 kWh/100 km; brandstofverbruik gecombineerd: 0,8-0,5 l/100 km; CO₂-emissie gecombineerd: 18-12 g/km)1.
